Longitudinal wave travelling along an infinite rod and reflection of this wave from a cross notch is studied. The relationship between the reflected wave and parameters of the notch is obtained. The solution of the inverse problem enables to find the coordinate and depth/length parameter of the notch using information about incident and reflected waves at the observation point.
